Fresh Expression is Back This Sunday!

Our first one after the summer break is Sunday, September 17th at 5:30.  Daniel Locke will be coming to do our reflection!  We are so excited to welcome him back before he heads off to first call!

Special Communion Bread on Sunday

Special communion bread will be used this Sunday.  This past Sunday, our Redeemer families gathered for our first LIFT – Living in Faith Together.   LIFT is intended to strengthen the community of families already here at Redeemer but also fosters community with new families who join us.  As we spoke about the importance of community, we looked at our worship and how one of the most beautiful places to see community lived out is during communion.   Each family attending LIFT this past Sunday made a loaf of communion bread.  This bread is Gluten free, so all in our congregation can take from the same loaf this morning.

Hurricanes Harvey and Irma:

Hurricane Relief:  Donations received to help in the aftermath of Hurricanes Harvey  and Irma will be directed to Lutheran Disaster Response.  This ministry of the ELCA has a reputation of being “first in, last out.”  They are there to help in a hurry and stay until the need is no more.  Make checks to Redeemer and mark them for “Hurricane” or “Disaster.”

In addition, if you are a Thrivent member, Thrivent will match gifts up to a total of $3 million.  In addition, you can direct your Thrivent Choice dollars to the ELCA Disaster Response.  You can find out more at their website:, then go to the tab for Making a Difference, and then Living Generously.  Down the page, you’ll see the section on Disaster Response.  Click the Hurricane Harvey story for more information and how to donate.

Please note:  you must donate through this site to get the matching funds.  Donations through Redeemer don’t qualify. Here’s the direct link:

Or, you can go directly to the ELCA web page to give:

It’s Coming….

Leisure Timers Back in Action

It’s that time! Leisure Timers will resume activities for 2017-2018. We’ll begin with a covered dish luncheon on Thursday, September 21st, at noon, in our fellowship hall. We’ll talk about our upcoming activities. All of our seniors are invited to come and enjoy good food and friends. If you haven’t been before, do come to see if you may like it.  Our luncheons are on the third Thursdays of each month. We have programs at some of them. Also, for those who wish, we have fun and interesting day trips around SC. We love our new, comfortable bus! If you have any questions, call me, Cathy Stutts, at 772-7289, e-mail at, or see me at church.  New members are especially invited!

As some of you know, Mabel Trexler has moved to Tennessee.  She has had some health issues lately.  She could use some cards and letters and to hear from her friends at Redeemer.  If anyone would like to send her a note, her new address is 2811 Sagegrass Dr., Louisville, TN  37777.

Help our College Students

Sole Hope – Turn Old Denim Into Shoes for the Needy

As the weather is turning cooler and you are going through your winter clothes – if you have denim of any color that no longer fits, think about donating them to SOLE HOPE.  This denim will be transformed into shoes.  There is a box in the small fellowship area for donations.

Flu Shots Are Coming!

They will be available after worship service on October 22nd.  Check back here in coming weeks for more information.

SonUp Bible Study

The SonRise Bible Study has offered so much insight and inspiration, that Pastor Gary is offering the same thing a bit later in the day for those who can’t quite make the early morning class.  This one — when the sun is up — will be on Tuesdays at 9:30am.

Thursday Bible Study Resumes

The Pastor’s Thursday Bible Study has resumed for the fall.  Classes are at 9:30am and 7:00pm.  To help us commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, this fall, the Bible study won’t be looking at a book of the Bible, but rather use a video series called Reformation Roots that focuses on the turbulent times of the Reformation era and explores the Reformation roots of the many denominations we have today.  The series seeks to bring to life the stories and struggles from that time that still impact us today.  Each week will feature about 20-25 minutes of video presentation by extremely reputable scholars, followed by discussion of what we have seen.

Blessing of the Pets Planned October 1

Mark your calendars for Redeemer’s Blessing of the Pets service, Sunday, October 1st at 5:00.  Our pets are often where we see God’s love modeled in the most amazing ways so come as we celebrate our pets and St. Francis of Assisi, Patron Saint of Animals and the Environment.  This service will take place outside.  Bring your pet or a picture of your pet for the service.  All are welcome, whether you have a pet or not!  We will be taking up an offering for Homeward Bound Pet Rescue and Palmetto Animal Assisted Life Services.

Preschool Start

We have had a great first couple of weeks of school and the children are adjusting to their new classrooms and teachers.  We have 29 children enrolled and still have room in our 3 & 4 year old classes. Please look for info coming soon about our Fall Festival, which will be on Wednesday, October 25 from 6-8 p.m.

Consider the SonRise Bible Study Again

The SonRise Bible Study meets every Tuesday at 7:15am. This study looks at the Psalm we will use on the following Sunday in worship, and the study enhances not only our understanding of God’s word, but also the meaning we receive during worship.  The Psalm is considered a commentary on the first lesson, so connections there are explored too, and we also look at the Hymn of the Day and explore common themes.  It’s a great way to start your day before work immersed in God’s word.  We finish by 8:00am. Come join us!  Coffee is provided.

Quarterly Contribution statements

are available in the small fellowship area.

Oktoberfest at Incarnation

Mark  your calendar for Oktoberfest at Incarnation Lutheran, October 13-15!  Saturday, Redeemer is responsible for 5 volunteers at the Bar from 11am-3pm and 6 volunteers at the food tent from 11:30am-2:30pm.  Also, Sunday following worship we will head there for lunch!

Sharing God’s Love

Next Sunday. Sept. 24th will be time again to bring food donations for our Sharing God’s Love food cart . Recent weather conditions have  impacted on food pantries in many areas of our state.  All non-perishable food donations  will be distributed where most needed through Sharing God’s Love. Thank you for your continued generous support.
